Tony and I spent a couple nights in Fort Collins with friends of his from college who have an awesome apartment in town. They graciously hosted us and showed us all of the best places to go around Fort Collins. 

The downtown area was all blocked off for their first festival of summertime, and it definitely got us in the summer spirit. It was weird to think that it was still May! There were bands playing, vendors and booths, kids running through the streets and food trucks. Of course we hit up the taco truck 🙂 

A trip to Fort Collins would not have been complete without a couple brewery stops. They’re pretty much on every corner! Normally I go to breweries and hang out and enjoy the ambience but don’t drink much since I am not into beer. Usually they’ll have a homemade soda that’s tasty or something I can enjoy instead. 

However, O’Dell Brewing made an amazing sour beer that tasted like refreshing fruit. I usually like sours since they are fruity and don’t taste like beer. I mentioned that to someone in Estes Park and her response was, “Oh my gosh! You have to check out Funkwerks when you’re in Fort Collins! They specialize in sours and would have a ton that you like!” 

She was not kidding! It was the perfect spot for me. The outside was even painted yellow! I got my very first flight of beers there and enjoyed 4 different fruity sours like raspberry and pineapple. Yum!!!! 

During the day we adventured to Horsetooth Reservoir and hiked around. We stopped at Great Harvest Bread and a local co-op on the way and stocked up on all of the makings for a picnic. We ate our fresh, warm bread overlooking the reservoir and mountains in the sunshine. It could not have been more perfect and it was definitely a highlight of the trip!
