The sun was shining brightly through the clear blue sky making Cinco de Mayo feel more like a hot summer day than May. Cold beers were popped, hay whipped around the fresh, country air, as the tractor carried Cynthia and Mikey down the farmland road with their wedding party.
From the duck habitat centerpieces, to the wall that said, “great catch” and showed off all of the huge fish they’ve caught, to the tree planting ceremony, everything about Mikey and Cynthia’s day showed off their amazing personalities.
They love spending time retreating into nature than just about anything else. Their ideal time spent together is hunting and fishing, and they even spent their wedding night camping at their venue. How cool is that!?
The gorgeous country venue Scenic Escape Barn provided an ideal backdrop for them to start their marriage adventure. With a gorgeous red barn at the center, it was perfectly surrounded by open fields and fresh air. The entire wedding day was spent outside except for dinner in the barn.
They even had their dance outdoors on the deck of the barn. If guests wanted a break from dancing, they just went into the yard for a game of bags, giant jenga or a bonfire.
The wedding party went on a hay ride instead of opting for the more traditional party bus. They played the shoe game with unique questions like who has caught the biggest fish. Cynthia reluctantly agreed that it was Mikey, but attested that he had help from her reeling it in.
The authentic vows that Mikey and Cynthia wrote themselves were a highlight of the day for me and I am sure many of the guests as well. They took turns wiping tears from each other’s eyes as they laughed and revealed their hearts to each other. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house!
Enjoy these favorites from their day 🙂
- STOP scrolling! Look at this RSVP card. It’s hilarious! If you are planning a wedding yourself, I know you can appreciate it! I especially love the part about if you plan on coming but don’t RSVP, please bring a sandwich and a chair 😉
- So many of my Lumos brides get ready in flannel and I love it!
- Mikey and Cynthia’s first look was one of the most emotional I’ve seen in a long time. Cynthia said he was going to cry but I wasn’t sure. A lot of brides say that but then the guy doesn’t. As soon as Mikey turned around though, he was clearly stunned by how gorgeous his bride was! It was the sweetest!
- The wedding party went on a hay ride over to a neighboring farm and got to see this awesome mule! I was elated! Little known fact- donkeys are one of my favorite animals. The more awkward version of a graceful horse. They’re so great!
- I love the girl’s dresses! All of the different colors went together perfectly 🙂
- This is one of my favorite shots to get at every wedding- the bride and her dad anticipating their walk down the aisle!
- This is another favorite shot to get- the groom’s face as the bride is walking down!
- If these photos don’t convince you to write your own vows, nothing will! It was the highlight of the day for me!
- I love the bridesmaid’s reaction to the vows in this photo!
- Kevin was an awesome best man! He was ready to go there with a tissue!
- I highly recommend that each couple dips away for a few minutes on their day to spend some alone time together. It helps you soak it all in and remember why you’re having your wedding in the first place! Mikey and Cynthia did this right after their ceremony. Love it!
- The DJ did a variation of the anniversary dance and had all of the married couples stand up after dinner to see who had been married the longest. Mikey’s grandparents were the obvious winners! They have been together 67 years!!!! Their advice on a successful marriage? Make each other the priortiy. Over kids, work and everything else. They were my favorite!
- I loved that Mikey and Cynthia’s two black labs were hanging out with everyone at the reception. Bring your dogs to your wedding if at all possible!
- Mikey and Cynthia had the best, laid back, come what may attitude about their wedding! When we were talking a couple days before the wedding, Cynthia mentioned that there might be a storm that rolls in around dinner time but her response was, “oh well! Maybe there will be a rainbow!” And guess what?! There was!!! It’s a bit hard to see in the photos but look above the tress on the left side of the photos. These storm clouds made for amazing photos!
