When I shot Justin and Anne’s wedding last year, Anne mentioned that her cousin Sara was getting married in 2018 in Stillwater and was looking for a photographer. I was super excited because I loved Justin and Anne and got excited about shooting another wedding for their friends and family.
Stillwater also happens to be one of my favorite towns in Minnesota. I spent a ton of time boating on the St. Croix River with my family growing up so I am grateful for any chance to shoot there.
Sara had her reception venue picked out when we first met but didn’t have her ceremony venue picked out yet. She asked for advice and I happily offered up Pioneer Park.
Tony and I had debated between getting married in either Stillwater or Red Wing. Ultimately, we decided on Red Wing but if we would have gotten married in Stillwater, we were going to have our ceremony at Pioneer Park. The park is situated on top of a bluff with stunning views of the river. I was so happy they chose that spot to tie the knot!
I arrived at the picturesque Sauntry Mansion where the girls were getting earlier than we had originally planned, and even so, all of the girls were done with their hair and make-up ahead of schedule and hanging out in the suite. Trust me when I say that is a VERY rare occurrence at weddings!
They had a calm and relaxing morning that they spent listening to music, laughing and catching up with each other.
The anticipation built throughout the morning and reached an all-time high after Sara got her dress on, and Jake arrived for the first look. Jake’s face lit up with the biggest smile ever when he turned around and saw his bride standing there.
We had fun hanging out in the sunshine and taking photos of just the two of them as they got to soak up each other’s company. We headed downtown Stillwater for the wedding party photos and town was crazy busy on this perfect fall day. I was convinced that none of us were going to get a parking spot but we all did easily. It was meant to be 🙂
We even had some time left so after getting photos by the river, so we walked to the super cute walk-up ice cream window and Jake & Sara shared a cone. I’m pretty sure every couple needs to have ice cream on their wedding day!
During the ceremony, they read unique vows and read letters they had written to each other, and Sara’s brother officiated. Personal touches during the ceremony like that are always highlights of the day.
Jake kept saying that he wasn’t going to dance at the reception, but when he got pulled onto the dance floor, he looked like a pro out there, dancing and laughing with his stunning bride, mom and grandma.
Jake & Sara- Your day was amazing, and I am beyond grateful I got to spend it with you!
Justin and Anne on the right are an amazing Lumos Couple from last year! Anne referred her cousin Sara to me after their wedding! Sara thoughtfully put me at the same dinner table as Justin & Anne so we got to catch up. So fun! Check out Justin and Anne’s wedding here.
