The cold air washed over them under the grey sky that blanketed the city. As they walked over to the rock that sat on the bluff overlooking Duluth, they threw their arms in the air in celebration and exclaimed, “We’re king of the world!” The joy was starting to soak in. It had finally happened. They were officially married, and now they got to enjoy a fun evening with their closest friends.
When I first met with Gary & Anne, they emphasized wanting a low-key, low-stress, laid back wedding. They didn’t want drama. They wanted simple. Intimate. They didn’t want to put their lives on hold to plan a wedding. Sound familiar? If you are planning a wedding, you might have said similar things.
This is exactly how Tony and I felt when we were planning our own wedding. We loved how our day turned out but didn’t totally achieve the low-stress, low-key thing. At all. It’s much easier said than done.
However, Gary and Anne didn’t just say that this is what they wanted. They made sure that was how the day actually turned out. They hired Emily with Lace and Brass Events to be a single point of contact with their vendors and had her assist with picking most of them out.
They invited 20 of their closest friends and a dog to take a weekend trip from the Twin Cities to Duluth to celebrate with them. The relaxed ceremony at Enger Park overlooking Duluth was breathtaking. It was short and sweet so Anne only had to be without a jacket in the chilly air for a little bit.
After photos, Gary and Anne said good night to their sweet son James and joined their friends in a private room at The Boat House in Fitgers for dinner, drinks and music overlooking Lake Superior. With the fall colors at their perfect peak and the views of Duluth and the lake, their wedding couldn’t get any more scenic.
With the small group, they were able to all sit at one table for the party and Gary and Anne got to spend a good amount of time catching up with each thoughtfully selected guest. Cheers to intimate weddings and a huge congrats to Gary & Anne!
- Gary and Anne’s sweet son James was so great throughout the day! He was such a good sport and didn’t even seem to mind the cold!
- Any time dogs are invited to the ceremony is soooooo good with me!
- The bride anticipating her walk down the aisle and the groom watching her walk towards him are always some of my favorite moments to capture at every wedding! That and the moment they are officially husband and wife!
- I love these “just married” faces so much! In the next photo, they are waving to their son in the front row. So sweet!
Fun fact- they love Harry Potter and first looked at Lumos Images because of the name! Harry Potter fans for the win!
If you’re not a fan and have no idea what I am talking about, Lumos is a spell used to conjure light from their wands. Light is key to photography which is why I loved the name. It sounds pretty cool, too 😉
